Message from PIWA President JoAnn Peri
I’d like to take this opportunity to extend my best personal wishes to all of you affected by the extreme weather of late. It’s times like these that bring out the best in all of us, so we can help those in need return to some sense of normalcy; and our industry has been a great example of that during these very trying times. Our clients need us more than ever; our ability to be responsive and efficient is helping many of those who suffered a loss get on the road to recovery and that is something we can all be proud of.

PIWA Board Supports ELANY Position on Executive Order
The PIWA Board of Directors has voted in support of ELANY Bulletin 2012-31, which recommends that excess lines carriers adhere to the Governors Executive Order imposing a moratorium on the termination, cancellation or nonrenewal of certain “covered policies”.  As stated in the ELANY bulletin, PIWA agrees that that despite the legal interpretations that may apply, this is the right thing to do for the many policyholders affected by Storm Sandy. 2012 Scholarship Winner Named
PIWA is proud to announce the winner of the 2012 Abe Snyder Memorial Scholarship, an award given to a St. John’s student in an insurance related curriculum who is successful academically, has exceptional character and is an active member of the community. This year’s winner is Anna Heliotis of West Hempstead, NY. Anna is a senior at St. Johns University, majoring in Risk Management and Insurance. In addition to her studies, Anna works part-time at her family’s insurance agency, is active in her church and supports local charities. The PIWA board is pleased to honor her accomplishments and hopes she will consider a career in the wholesale insurance marketplace.

Annual Recognition Dinner Canceled
The PIWA board of directors voted earlier this week not to reschedule the 2012 PIWA Annual Recognition Dinner originally scheduled for Nov. 7th, due to the on-going recovery efforts in New York and the demand it has put on the insurance industry as a whole. The board extends its sincere gratitude to our members and company partners for their on-going support and looks forward to an expanded spring program to celebrate all we have accomplished during this difficult year.

Many Thanks to PIWA’s Company Partners
Please join the PIWA Board of Directors in recognizing the association’s Company Partners. Without their generous support, PIWA couldn't offer the quality programming and networking events our members have come to expect. In 2013 we are planning expanded programs to add value and further increase the visibility of our Company Partners. For more information on PIWA’s Company Partner program, click HERE.
